Jewish in Morocco, Sephardic in Quebec: a post-colonial story of migration

Montreal is home to a multiethnic Jewish community that encompasses Jews of various backgrounds, over a quarter of whom self-identify as either Sephardic or a native of the Maghreb, North Africa, etc.

In this lecture, Yolande Cohen will examine how the Sephardic community’s attachment to the French language has enabled it to successfully integrate into the Quebec economy, and how this has led to some identity issues, particularly among the younger generations.
