Festival Quartiers Danses

Dance Performance: Naufrago
The McCord Museum is pleased to host, once again this year, three performances of the Festival Quartiers Danses. The 2021 edition of the Festival will take place from September 8 to 19.
In this performance, a survivor from a drifting world discovers his new environment. He falls constantly as if dazed and stunned by the continuous flow of emotions, sensations and information crashing down on him.
Accompanied by Colombian musician-composer Mateo Barrera (Révélation Radio-Canada 2020-2021 World Music), the performer responds to the melody, caught up in a voice that seems to guide him with benevolence and sincerity. He faces a reflection of himself, a peaceful alter-ego, a warm shadow.
Originally created for a long-term care audience during the first waves of the pandemic, Naufrago reflects our feeling of powerlessness in the face of the challenges that seem to loom ahead. This loss of control is not to be fought but rather welcomed and carried along by the flow of things.
Accept, mourn what is no longer there in order to get up and rise fully, serenely and humbly.
The dance performance Naufrago will be presented in the Urban Forest as part of the Festival Quartiers Danses.
A new creation by choreographer Charles Brecard.
Charles Brecard
Originally from New Caledonia, Charles Brecard graduated from the École de Danse Contemporaine de Montréal (EDCM) in 2017. He has since collaborated with several Montreal artists, such as Parts + Labour_Danse, Andrea Peña, Andrew Skeels and Martin Messier. His boundless curiosity pushes him towards Europe where he takes part in numerous training courses.
Influenced by urban, folk and contemporary dance, he developed a teaching and creative practice. His work has been presented in New Brunswick, Montreal, France and Germany.

The Quartiers Danses Festival has made its mission to democratize contemporary dance in all its forms and hybrids by making it more accessible to all audiences in traditional and unusual venues. The FQD primarily presents shows from local artists, but also frequently invites national and international creators. It adopts a multidisciplinary approach to original dance that comprises presentation, performances, installations, films, exhibits, meetings, discussions, and, last but not least, cultural mediation workshops.
