The McCord Stewart Museum is a custodian of our artistic, cultural and historical heritage, housing a collection of 2.5 million artworks, objects, images and documents that is unrivalled in Canada. More than half the Museum’s annual budget is allocated to preserving, documenting and restoring the collections in its care.

You are helping us present challenging exhibitions

When you make a donation, you are helping to present exclusive exhibitions of fashion such as Costume Balls: Dressing Up History, 1870-1927, on view from November 14.

A century and a half ago, extravagant costume balls and skating carnivals were the pinnacle of society entertainments. This stunning exhibition presents for the first time the outfits worn on these occasions from the Museum’s renowned Dress, Fashion and Textiles collection.

The Conservation Department is at the heart of the Museum’s mandate to preserve, study and present the objects in its collections.

The exhibition Costume Balls provides a unique opportunity to examine over 40 original costumes worn at balls. Each outfit on display has been studied, documented, treated and mounted on mannequins custom-designed, highlighting the Museum’s recognized expertise as a leader in textiles and dress.
