Documentary screening: Nil, Thelesh Nishinkashin

Free activity | Space is limited, reservation required.

International First Peoples’ Festival and the Museum invite you to the screening of the documentary Nil, Thelesh Nishinkashin by Carl Morasse and Michèle Mishen Martin. The film will be followed by the short NINawit à Paris.

Nil, Thelesh Nishinkashin

Conversation with an Elder. After living in the territory and spending years of abuse in residential schools, Pekuakamiulnu Thelesh, through her resilience, overcame her traumas to become a cultural carrier and an inspiring Kukum. She represents all of those elder survivors of residential schools who proudly carry and pass on the cultures and languages in Aboriginal communities across Canada.

Nil, Thelesh Nishinkashin (My Name is Thalesh), Carl Morasse and Michèle Mishen Martin, Canada, 50 min.

NINawit à Paris

The Indigenous Cultural Association Minwashin organized an Algonquin cultural exhibition for the Anishinaabe communities of Abitibi-Témiscamingue that ended up going to Paris! A short film recounting this improbable but oh-so-fun trip to the City of Lights.

NINawit à Paris, Canada, 8 min.

The Place des Festivals, with its giant teepee, becomes a nucleus of intense artistic activity that radiates throughout the city. The programming centres on First People’s cinema, crowd-drawing concerts, and Indigenous performing arts in a wide variety of forms and expressions.
