About

Super Boat People

Super Boat People is a collective created by and for Quebec’s Cambodian, Laotian and Vietnamese communities. Its mission is to reclaim personal and collective histories, to foster cultural and community (re)connection, to ensure fair representation, to support artists, and to defend the rights and interests of immigrants and refugees. In pursuing its goal, Super Boat People organizes a range of projects, including oral history and mediation workshops, a small multidisciplinary arts festival, events aimed at disseminating and supporting the arts, social campaigns, a community garden devoted to Asian vegetables and herbs, and food literacy.

Claire Beaugrand-Champagne

Born in Quebec in 1948, Claire Beaugrand-Champagne has been exploring documentary photography for over fifty years. The results of the reportages of this socially engaged artist and photographer – which have taken her all over the world – can be found in important private collections and in a number of major museums, including the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, Library and Archives Canada, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, the McCord Stewart Museum, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the National Gallery of Canada.

From December 5, 2013, to April 13, 2014, the McCord Museum held Claire Beaugrand-Champagne. Touching Reality. Photographs from 1970 to 2013, an exhibition dedicated to works by this celebrated Montreal photographer.
