Cultural Districts and the Challenge of Authenticity
City Talks
March 11, 2015
LECTURE PRESENTED ON MARCH 11, 2015
Sometimes spontaneous, sometimes planned, cultural districts are distinct, colourful entities that subdivide a city and characterize its diversity. When they are “manufactured” through political will, do they provide a real cultural experience, or are they just places to consume culture? How do they affect surrounding neighbourhoods, local cultural initiatives and artists?
Moderator:
- Dinu Bumbaru, Policy Director of Heritage Montreal
Speakers:
- Guy Bellavance, Professor, iNrS, Centre urbanisation Culture Société
- Alexandre Taillefer, Managing Partner, XPND Capital
- Marie-Claude Lortie, Columnist, La Presse
Lecture presented by the McCord Museum and Heritage Montreal.
