Gabor Szilasi – The Art World in Montreal, 1960-1980
November 9, 2018
This video is composed of excerpts of interviews conducted for the exhibition “Gabor Szilasi – The Art World in Montreal, 1960–1980” by curator Zoë Tousignant. Each participant was shown Gabor Szilasi’s archive of 102 contact sheets representing art openings in Montreal between 1960 and 1980.
The interviews capture the participants’ reactions to seeing photographs – some taken almost sixty years earlier – of friends and acquaintances, many of whom are now deceased. The purpose of the video was to return the archive to the arts community and to give tangible form to the emotions that Szilasi’s images may provoke.
