Inhabiting heritage

Lecture presented on October 30, 2019

The classification or relocation of a historic building can help it avoid demolition. But these one-off solutions don’t serve the huge number of heritage houses, whether historic or modern, grand or modest, in the city’s neighbourhoods and villages.

How can we reconcile their shared heritage value and their private or commercial use? What responsibility do owners and other stakeholders have? How can we define and maintain the authenticity of this living heritage?
