Three free creative stops on Sherbrooke Street West for spring break*

Montreal, January 14, 2025 – Head to Sherbrooke Street West this spring break. From March 1 to 9, the McCord Stewart Museum, La Guilde and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts are inviting families to take part in a fun and enriching experience with the activities circuit atauttikkut – together. People of all ages can enjoy a host of creative activities featuring Inuit art at three stops within a one-kilometre walk.

Immerse yourself in Inuit culture, where owls speak, hunters glide over ice fields, and seals are sometimes human. At The Arctic Story Factory Family Workshop, create stories inspired by the legends and characters depicted in Manasie Akpaliapik’s work using photographs and short texts.

Explore the textures of Nunavut, a vast territory with a multitude of landscapes. At the Textures of an Imagined Journey Family Workshop, fill in a postcard of your imagined trip to the Far North.

Admire the sculptures of one of the most gifted artists of his generation. Originally from Ikpiarjuk (Arctic Bay), Manasie Akpaliapik transforms his preferred materials—stone, whale bone and caribou antlers—into creations representing oral tradition, cultural values, the supernatural world, Arctic wildlife and its environment. Contemplate around 40 of his works at the exhibition Manasie Akpaliapik. Inuit Universe.

Explore themes of life, community and sharing, in the creative workshop for the whole family Energy of the Heart.

Meditate on the rhythms of life particular to the circumpolar territories known together as Inuit Nunangat with ᐆᒻᒪᖁᑎᒃ uummaqutik: essence of life. This new presentation of the MMFA’s Inuit art collection blends fascinating installations, works on paper, paintings and sculptures dating from 1949 to today.

Be amazed by Glenn Gear’s ulitsuak | marée montante | rising tide. This projected animation, which lights up the facade of the Michal and Renata Hornstein Pavilion every night, reflects the fragility of our ecosystems through a kaleidoscopic world inspired by Inuit motifs.
