Annonces institutionnelles
The McCord Stewart Museum team is proud to have received the Excellence award – category 2 from the Société des Musées du Québec* for the exhibition Indigenous Voices of Today: Knowledge, Trauma, Resilience. The SMQ awards recognize excellence in museum practices and reward projects that make a meaningful contribution to Quebec’s museum sector. The permanent exhibition, open to the public since September 2021, encourages meeting and dialogue with the 11 Indigenous nations of Quebec and is divided into three sections, presenting their knowledge, their trauma and their incredible resilience. This exhibition is the fruit of consultation with First Nations individuals conducted from 2010 to 2018.
At the SMQ 2022 conference, our colleagues also took part in several panel discussions in order to share the Museum’s best practices with 230 museum professionals in Quebec, in particular on the themes of: “Unity in diversity,” led by Jonathan Lainey, Curator, Indigenous Cultures; the educational project Umitemieu, created jointly by Leïla Afriat, Project Manager, Community Relation, Education, Community Engagement and Cultural Programs, Audrey Eberlé from the Huron-Wendat Museum, and Stéphane Nepton, Co-founder of UHU nomad labs; and “Governance and sustainable strategies” with Martine Couillard, Head, Government and Institutional Relations and Caroline Truchon, Project Manager, Exhibitions.
* Congratulations to the Musée de la Civilisation for its exhibition Oh Shit!, which also won the Excellence award, equally in category 2 ($750,000 to $2M).
