Nuit Blanche and Spring Break at the Museum: Creativity, Discovery and Poetry
Press Release
A host of activities for the whole family at the McCord Stewart Museum, March 2 to 10!
Montreal, February 23, 2024 – From an imaginary Montreal to explore at Nuit blanche, to a wide range of activities for the whole family during semaine de relâche, the McCord Stewart Museum’s programming will feature creativity, discovery and poetry from March 2 to 10.
Nuit blanche
For Nuit blanche, the Museum invites the public to discover an imaginary Montreal, inspired by the exhibition Becoming Montreal: The 1800s Painted by Duncan. On the evening of Saturday, March 2, festivalgoers will get to observe artists from Urban Sketchers Montréal at work in the exhibition gallery, and will then paint their own fantasy cityscape in a watercolour workshop led by the collective’s artists. And from 9 to 11:30 p.m., a poetic performance by La poésie partout will transport the audience to another dreamy version of Montreal.
Exceptionally, the Museum will be open from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., and access to exhibitions and activities will be free.
Spring Break at the Museum
During Spring break, the McCord Stewart Museum will be a go-to for families in search of fun activities. Every day from March 3 to 10, the Museum invites families to visit the exhibition Becoming Montreal: The 1800s Painted by Duncan by taking part in the Family Winter Fun animated tour, featuring objects they can handle. Then, inspired by the sight of James Duncan’s magnificent watercolours, children and their parents can express their creativity in the workshop Collaborative Window Display: Create a Snowy Landscape. Plus, every afternoon a mini wampum-making workshop will provide an intro to beading.
The first week of March will also be the perfect opportunity for families to visit the Museum’s exhibitions through a variety of playful tours designed especially for children. In addition to the activity Animated Tour: Winter Fun for the Whole Family in the exhibition Becoming Montreal, the exhibition Wampum: Beads of Diplomacy features signage designed to provoke thought and interaction between children and their companions. Lastly, the activity Natu-natshishkueu: The Adventure of Connection, presented by Hydro-Québec, invites children to search for objects and symbols presented in the exhibition Indigenous Voices of Today: Knowledge, Trauma, Resilience.
Because accessibility for families is important to the Museum, access is always free for young people aged 17 and under.* Another excellent reason to put the Museum on your spring break agenda!
