Museum Announcements
The McCord Stewart Museum is pleased to announce that Suzanne Sauvage, President and CEO of the Museum, was appointed Member of the Order of Canada on June 29.
She is being recognized for her remarkable national and international career in the field of communications and culture, and for her contribution to the development of the cultural sector in Canada.
As a high-level manager, Suzanne Sauvage led major communications companies in Canada and abroad before taking the helm of the McCord Museum in 2010. Under her leadership, the Museum has merged with two other museums and has become a key player in Montreal’s cultural life, attracting a diverse, younger and ever-growing audience.
A model of civic engagement, she has been involved with many community and cultural organizations in Montreal and nationally, including the Women’s Y, the Orchestre Métropolitain, the National Ballet of Canada, the Compagnie Marie Chouinard, the Montreal High Lights Festival, the Quat’Sous Theatre and Concordia University, to name but a few.
The Order of Canada
The Order of Canada is one of Canada’s highest honours. The award was created in 1967 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, to honour people whose service shapes our society, whose innovations ignite our imaginations, and whose compassion unites Canadian communities.
To date, more than 7,600 people from all segments of Canadian society have been invested into the Order of Canada.
“The Order of Canada celebrates the lives, endeavours and successes of people from coast to coast to coast and from all walks of life. Those being appointed today come from a variety of sectors, have achieved national and international success, and have shown ingenuity, innovation and generosity. What’s more, they have made a difference in their communities and for Canada with their outstanding dedication and commitment. Congratulations to the new Order of Canada appointees, as well as those celebrating a promotion within the Order,” said Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada.
