Museum Announcements

The McCord Museum is pleased to announce the appointment of Zoë Tousignant as Curator, Photography. Succeeding Hélène Samson, she will be responsible for the development and distribution of the Photography collection – one of the largest in Canada – which includes approximately 2,150,000 photographs.

A researcher and curator specializing in the history of photography in Quebec, Zoë Tousignant has been actively involved in Montreal’s artistic and photographic communities for over two decades. She holds a PhD in Art History from Concordia University (2013) and an MA in Museology from the University of Leeds (2004). She previously held the positions of Assistant Curator, Photography at the McCord Museum and Curator at Artexte. During her many curatorial projects, she has worked closely with photographers such as Serge Clément, Carlos Ferrand, Marisa Portolese and Gabor Szilasi.

Her essays on photography have appeared in numerous catalogues, monographs and periodicals. She has been a regular contributor to Ciel variable magazine for over ten years. Her recent publications include the book Gabor Szilasi: The Art World in Montreal, 1960-1980 (McCord Museum and McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2019) and contributions to the anthology Une histoire mondiale des femmes photographes, edited by Luce Lebart and Marie Robert (Éditions Textuel, 2020).

Hélène Samson continues her collaboration with the Museum as Outgoing Photography Curator and curator of the exhibition Alexander Henderson – Art and Nature, which will be launched in June 2022.
