Norman Parkinson: Always in style

With his flamboyant personality and pioneering sensibility, British photographer Norman Parkinson gave new impetus to fashion photography and celebrity portraiture, photographing the 20th century’s most prominent artists and celebrities.

On view from April 19 to September 2, 2024, Norman Parkinson: Always in Style is the first of two exhibitions devoted to fashion and portrait photography making their North American premieres at the McCord Stewart Museum this spring.

Presence of the past by MC Snow

Presented as part of the Contemporary Native Art Biennial (BACA), the Kanien’kehá:ka artist’s installation immerses the viewer in a space studded with objects from the Museum’s Indigenous Cultures collection as well as contemporary works.

Media visits

Journalists with a press card can visit the Museum’s exhibitions free of charge during normal opening hours on presentation of the card.

Presence of the past

For its first collaboration with the Contemporary Native Art Biennial, the Museum will host Kanien’kehà:ka artist MC Snow. In two original works, the artist explores the messages and emotions conveyed by the Kanien’kehá:ka objects in the Museum’s Indigenous Cultures collection.

For over one hundred years, the Museum has been building its rich collections of objects, images and documents that bear witness to the social history of Montreal, the city’s place within Quebec and Canada, and the vitality of Indigenous cultures.

Online collection
The site also features approximately 144,000 royalty-free images that may be downloaded in the highest resolution available, free of charge, with no restrictions on their use. Created to provide unparalleled access to the McCord Stewart Museum’s collections, the project is a first for the institution.
